The Eagle Island Expedition

This relatively short paddle combines both the rural and urban aspects of the Cape Fear River. Our put in is a rustic boat ramp at Navassa Park. From here we wind our way through the marshes for the first mile until emptying out into the wide expance of the river.  With downtown on the horizon this section of the paddle becomes increasingly urban until we cross under the Isabella Holmes Bridge. The paddle continues with a unique view of downtown on our left and the Battleship North Carolina on our right. We pull out just above the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge at Dram Tree Park. Along the way we'll take time to explore Eagle Island as well observe the wreck of a Civil War era vessel.
